you can tell the block to use a custom image url or the topic url for the category images. Image.Link

maybe its a template problem? since the current version..(October). doesnt have that mailto image link.

im using the same version of xoops and news on my computer and i dont know what could be the problem. i wont have much free time until friday.

Edit:: what about uninstalling xm-spotlight and reinstalling it.?

i think there may already be a module that does that (reads feeds from other sites and display them).. check out xoops.org someone on those forums will probably know.

so what version of xoops are you running and what version of news do you have installed?

and is was this a new installation of xm-spotlight or an update?

i see that Hervé got a new version of news for download. (News 1.50). i haven't tested it out yet though, but i hear good things about it.. next week is finals week so i will be pretty busy with the exams. lately i've been a bit busy with homework and studying.

update: so i was reading some comments at the xoop.org site.. XM-Spotlight at its current release will not work . since some of the functions in 'News' were changed.

is it set to 'Custom Image or Topic Image' ? (in the block's setting. 'Show An Image On The Spotlight?' )

if its on Topic Image Then Make Sure You Have An Image Set For The Category (In The News Module).

if its Set To Custom Image. make sure you put the image url in this format (http://and link to the image). The img tag requires that you put the http:// or it becomes relative.
